The Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU) of the Nigeria Climate Adaptation – Erosion and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB) convened a strategic meeting in Abuja on Monday with 23 State Project Coordinators to finalize state-level readiness and work plans ahead of fund disbursement.

In delivering the opening remarks, the National Project Coordinator, Engr. Ayuba Anda Yalaks, said the meeting aimed to harmonize state readiness, finalize draft work plans, and resolve outstanding concerns prior to the release of funds.

The statement was signed by Madina Gertrude, Communication Specialist for NEWMAP-EIB, and released to journalists. Providing an update on project status, Engr. Yalaks announced that NEWMAP-EIB has been declared technically and disbursement effective and confirmed receipt of the first tranche of funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB). He added that for any state to receive disbursement under the first tranche, it must have been visited and physically assessed by the FPMU, as recommended by the bank, in line with the readiness criteria set by the EIB.

Dr. Philip Uche Echiegu, Chairman of the Project Coordinators Forum, in his welcome address, stressed the importance of collaboration in achieving project goals.

Usman Abdullahi Bokani, Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, urged all project coordinators to explore every avenue for successful implementation, noting that the project’s success would mark a significant milestone and reflect collective effort and dedication.
