‘African women dey break barriers but inequality still dey’

Four Africans make di list of di 100 most powerful women in di world for 2023.

Na di third time Forbes magazine dey feature her on dia list of di most powerful women in di world, and dis time, she speak wit BBC about dat and her journey to become one of di ogbonge pipo inside media for Africa.

“I wake up everyday and di first tin I dey do na to ask God bless di work wey I wan do. So I dey ask for di blessings, but plenty of us dey ask for those blessings so asides from dat, you also need to put in di work.”

Plenti women dey around di world, for Nigeria wey dey do great tins, so to be named one of four Africans on such a list, dey awesome and I give God all di glory.”

‘African women dey break barriers, but inequality still dey’

“Women dey step out to break barriers but we need to understand say inequality still dey.

I say African women need to work three times harder dan any oda woman in di world. Gender bias already dey, wey be one, second bias dey say you be Black, den anoda say you be African and for some cases say you be Nigerian.

So all those levels of discrimination dey to fight against and I believe say e dey prepare us to dey excellent. Because I know say those barriers exist, so I know say I get to work ten times harder dan anyone else around di world, and wetin e do na to prepare me to be better dan everyone else.”

‘E dey important to keep di funnel full’

Speaking on her motivation and why she continue to dey push, Abudu tok say she be pesin wey believe in having a big pipeline of projects and she dey always dey determined to execute dem.

“E dey important to keep di funnel full because tins go come down through di funnel and dem no go drop at di same time, I get projects wey dey come down now from di funnel wey don dey in di making for years.

And I no go stop having a full funnel because I keep having different dreams and I be di kind of pesin wey believe in finding ways to achieve those dreams with my incredible team.

“My dreams don reach a place wia e dey important to continue to dey dream.

I no ever wan dey in a position wia I feel say I don achieve my dreams because na ongoing process and I dey re-examine di things I dey do at every point in time. But I know say a lot more still need to be done.”

‘Women get di capacity to multi-task’

On balancing work and her life with family, Abudu tok share how she feel and how she dey do am.

“Women get di capacity to multi-task. God don bless us with dat and I dey use am to di fullest.

I tink wetin dey important na to make sure say you get children wey understand say you get a working mother like I be and dem dey give me space wen I get to work. But whenever I get to be there, I dey always dey dia.

My children, my mom, my family be di most important tin to me so I go always make time wen I need to make time but I also know say e don make my children independent and strong and dem know say dem need to work as hard as dia mother dey do.” Abudu tok.
